The research looks at how layers of data structures can be embedded into a single design model to generate details at various scales. Each building is associated with a specific data structure that identifies the building materials, structural systems, floor to ceiling heights, density, etc. The two buildings in the image below carry similar floor to ceiling heights but two types of structural systems (diagram vs typical frame systems). Similar to DNA in living systems, data structures can be used to carry all information associated with design from the smallest scale to the largest.
